Online Event - Google Hangout

About the event

So, this month you're going to have to make your own coffee and bring your own cake.

For Sunday we will have imaginary tables in our virtual coffee shop. Each table is hosted by one of us. Each table is not too big so we can all join in the conversations, perhaps 4 or 5 people.

Stephen will host table 1 to get us going.

You could volunteer to host a table now.

We are going to use Google Hangout for the actual chats, as this is what we are thinking of using for the Virtual Assembly and it would be nice to experiment with this on Sunday.

If you would like to join in, you can post your email address here before Sunday so we can set the groups up are more smoothly before the day, but we will also paste links to the groups here on the day.

*Hosting a table* As a host, you will merely be controlling numbers, helping people new to the technology, and ensuring everyone can contribute to the conversations if they want to do so. Just let the chat flow.

If you find you're at an empty table, leave and come back here to find others.

*Google Hangouts* Google for "google hangout" and install the free app for your device. You can just use a browser. It appears to work in all browsers but you'll most probably get the smoothest ride in Chrome.

I'll post a link to a test group if you want to test your hangout skills a little before the start time.  More detail to come.

There are lots of tutorial videos online for hangout, such as https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KyKsJfXIf5g

*Some etiquette* Once in the hangout session it can be easier to follow the conversations if all but the speaker mute their microphone (a button on-screen) and each can unmute to indicate they want to speak.
